AI workshop vs. AI consulting: what to buy first

A workshop trains a defined audience on skills and a shared method in a short window. A consulting engagement delivers a scoped outcome—process map, vendor selection, implementation plan, or transformation program—using outside capacity you do not have internally.

Buy a workshop when the blocker is shared vocabulary, fear, or the inability to use the tools the company already pays for. You should see behavior change the same week: new prompts, new habits, a calendar artifact people actually use.

Buy consulting when the blocker is integration, data contracts, or cross-department decision rights. Training cannot vote on whether Marketing and Ops will share a single customer view, but a project can, as long as the sponsor has authority.

Do neither first when the company has not agreed on a single workflow to measure. In that case, a diagnostic and one pilot, not a "strategy project," is usually the right first spend.

How Elegantix lines up: Tier 1 products include workshops, certification, and the AI Opportunity Report. Tier 2 cohorts build capability over weeks. Tier 3 fractional leadership is a hybrid: executive time plus playbooks from many similar companies.

For coordinated rollouts, see /programs/tier-1, /programs/tier-2, and the Private Company Transformation bundle in the course catalog.

If you are choosing between a cheap workshop and an expensive retainer, the split is usually: workshop when people cannot execute; consulting or fractional when you can execute but lack the hours and coordination.
